Escalating Costs Force Price Increase

Sandersville, Georgia October 12, 2004

Mr. Eric Tillirson, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Thiele Kaolin Company, announced that Thiele Kaolin Company will implement a price increase on kaolin products, effective January 1, 2005. Prices will increase from 5 to 9%, depending on the grade of kaolin.

Mr. Tillirson cited continuing increases in mining and processing costs associated with escalating energy, chemical, basic materials and transportation costs as the driving forces behind the price increase. “Over the past several years, Thiele has taken significant action to reduce costs including personnel reductions, outsourcing of services and the implementation of various cost control programs. Unfortunately, the escalation of costs associated with our business has continued to advance at a rate which makes it necessary for us to implement this general price increase.”
